We are a family run seasonal farm that originally started to grow and sell Christmas trees. But Covid meant a slight shift in work for us and our daughter, so we took the chance to add a pumpkin patch which far exceeded our expectations. This made us realise the potential to turn this little venture into a full-time job for all of us to get stuck in and improve on it year after year for our wonderful customers.
Pumpkin picking has progressed beyond our dreams to sell out each year. We have gone from growing just 7 different varieties and 525 pumpkins in 2021, to 17 varieties and 1,935 pumpkins in 2022 to 27 varieties and hopefully around 6,000 pumpkins grown in 2023! We’re still learning how to perfect growing them as each year the weather has been so different, but when we do, we hope to grow 10,000 each year so it is a pumpkin paradise with spooktacular events and photo opportunities galore.
The recent addition of reindeer will transform Christmas into a great day out to pick a tree, go on a winter wonderland walk, feed a reindeer, meet Santa, have a hot chocolate, and choose some new decorations, it doesn’t get much more festive than that! We aim to have the perfect tree for every customer whether that’s a potted tree to keep up out of the way of cheeky toddlers, a 4-foot tree for a cosy cottage or a 16-foot tree for our local church.
Finally, to achieve the feeling of being “proper” farmers, we have 600 chickens to sell our very own free-range eggs.
It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to have such a varied job whether that be feeding the reindeer, planting pumpkin seeds, lugging Christmas trees, collecting eggs, or general maintenance around the farm. They’re all things that we never thought we’d do for a living, it’s a stark difference from our usual walk of life. We hope that our passion for what we do here at Perry Tree Farm shines through our occasional lack of knowledge, we’re always learning and striving to do our best. We have countless ideas for the future, we hope you visit soon!
